IN THE BEGINNING

Everyone and everything has one and so does Scenic Arts Studios... Let's begin. Louis at 16 started his apprenticeship in the scenic industry as paint boy. After working and training in the scenic studio of Ben Craig, he moved on with the desire to be his own artist and boss. He accepted a scenic painting teaching position in the theater depatment of Wellsley College, Wellsley Ma.. Not bad for a young boy with a 6th grade education who had immigrated from Greece to the United Stated when he was 6yrs old. His talent was obvious!
With his marriage to the beautiful Bessie, Scenic Arts Studios had its begining. They moved to Boston to start their own studio. A thriving family business grew around Louies artistic talents.
Most fitting it was after all the Greeks, as you probably already know, who founded the theatrical stage in the Western tradition. Guess in was in their blood.
Bessie during the day supported her husband by working in a stocking factory sewing the seams in stockings and then sewing for Scenic Arts at night. Louis painted and Bessie sewed. Christos their son who came along many years later remembers playing on the studio floor listening to the metallic clack of the sewing maching as Bessie turned out Austrians, Borders, Velours, and Canvas Backdrops waiting to be painted while Louie with paint brush in hand and paint cart at side created another scenic backdrop masterpiece. Future generations were to repeat this senario to lend a wholeness to the company today.
